What Is an Auction Preview?

An auction preview is an opportunity to inspect items before the auction closes. Depending on the auction, preview may take place at Musick Auction’s Nampa location, Meridian location, or another location listed in the auction details.

Preview details can vary by auction. Before visiting, review the auction page for location, date, time, and any special instructions. Do not assume every item is available for preview at both locations. Items are tied to the location listed for that auction or lot.

Why Preview Matters

Auction inventory can come from many sources, including estates, consignors, business liquidations, government surplus, repossessions, personal collections, and commercial closeouts. Items may be used, worn, untested, incomplete, damaged, repaired, or missing parts.

Photos and Descriptions Are Useful, But Limited

Online photos and descriptions help buyers narrow their choices and understand what is being offered. A good listing may show visible condition, markings, model numbers, included accessories, measurements, serial numbers, title information, or known issues.

But photos and descriptions cannot show everything. They may not fully capture hidden defects, internal damage, mechanical issues, battery condition, odors, missing small parts, functionality, scale, weight, or wear that is only visible up close.

Vehicle Preview Checklist

• year, make, model, and VIN if provided
• mileage or hours if provided
• keys
• visible exterior damage
• visible interior condition
• tires and wheels
• glass and lights
• dash indicators if visible
• starts/runs notes if provided
• leaks or obvious mechanical concerns

• whether the vehicle is roadworthy or may require towing

• buyer’s premium, taxes, and applicable vehicle fees

Do not assume a vehicle can be driven away. Some vehicles may need towing, transport, repairs, paperwork, or additional review before legal road use.

Firearm Preview Checklist

Firearms require special care because they are regulated items and cannot be picked up like ordinary auction purchases. Before bidding, review the firearm listing, photos, and transfer requirements.

Do not assume that an auction description is the same as a certified appraisal. If value depends on authenticity, grade, purity, maker, or condition, inspect carefully and ask questions before bidding.

• Is shipping available, or is this local pickup only?
• Is the item titled?
• Is the item tested?
• Are accessories included?
• Are there known issues?
• What fees apply?
• Does the item require transfer paperwork?
• Is the item large, heavy, fragile, or difficult to remove?
• Can I legally receive this item?

When Not to Bid

• you cannot pick it up within 72 business hours
• you need shipping but have not confirmed availability
• you are unsure about title status
• you cannot complete firearm transfer requirements
• you cannot inspect a high-risk item and are not comfortable with that risk
• you do not understand the buyer’s premium, taxes, or fees
• you do not have a way to move or transport the item
• you are relying on assumptions not stated in the listing
