Common questions about consigning, fees, timelines, and payout — answered before you call.
If you are considering selling with Musick Auction for the first time, this page covers the questions sellers ask most before reaching out. From how the process works to what happens after your items sell, find the answers you need to move forward with confidence.
Getting Started with Consignment
Not sure where to start? These questions cover what sellers ask before making first contact.
Do I need to know what my items are worth before contacting Musick Auction?
No. You do not need an appraisal, a price list, or any prior research before reaching out. Our team reviews items regularly and can give you a general sense of how similar items have performed at auction. The best first step is a conversation — we will help you determine whether auction is the right fit for what you have.
Is there a minimum value or quantity required to consign?
There is no hard minimum, but auction works best for items that attract buyer interest. A single high-value item — a vehicle, a firearm, a piece of jewelry — can go to auction on its own. For smaller items like tools, household goods, or collectibles, we typically group them into lots to keep the process efficient and maximize return. If you are unsure whether what you have is worth consigning, ask — we will tell you honestly.
What types of items does Musick Auction accept?
We handle a wide range of personal and commercial assets including vehicles, trailers, RVs, firearms, coins and precious metals, jewelry, tools, household goods, construction and heavy equipment, business inventory, and real estate. We also work with whole estates, business liquidations, and court-directed asset sales. See everything we sell →
How do I get started?
Fill out our consignment inquiry form, call us directly, or connect with a sales rep who handles your type of items. From there we will review what you have, confirm it is a good fit, and walk you through the next steps. There is no obligation until you are ready to move forward.
How the Consignment Process Works
From drop-off to payout, here is what sellers can expect at every stage.
What happens after I drop off my items?
Once your items are checked in, our team takes over. We catalog each item, photograph it, write the listing description, assign it to an upcoming auction, and manage all bidding activity from open to close. You do not need to be present on auction day. After the auction ends and the buyer’s payment clears, we prepare your settlement and issue your payout. See how we prepare items →
How long does it take from drop-off to auction?
For most items, expect one to two weeks from drop-off to auction day — sometimes sooner depending on volume and scheduling. Vehicles and real estate typically have longer lead times due to title work and marketing preparation. If you are working toward a specific date — an estate closing, a legal deadline, or a move — let us know upfront and we will plan around it.
Do I need to be present on auction day?
No. Musick Auction runs fully online, so bidding happens remotely and you do not need to attend. Our team manages the entire auction on your behalf. After the auction closes, you will receive settlement documentation showing what sold, the final bid amounts, applicable fees, and your net payout.
Can Musick Auction pick up my items instead of me dropping them off?
In some cases, yes. Pickup is available for large estates, business liquidations, heavy equipment, and situations where transport is not practical. Availability depends on volume, location, and item type. Contact a sales rep to discuss whether your situation qualifies.
What if I change my mind after dropping off my items?
Let us know as soon as possible. If your items have not been cataloged and scheduled yet, we can typically accommodate a withdrawal. Once items are listed in an active auction, removal becomes more complicated. Let us know what changed and we will figure out the best path forward together.
Fees, Commission & Seller Payment
Transparent answers to the questions sellers most commonly ask about money before committing.
How does Musick Auction's commission structure work?
Musick Auction earns a commission on the final sale price of each item sold. Rates vary by item type and consignment volume — a single vehicle consignment carries a different rate than a full estate liquidation, and higher-value items often carry lower percentage commissions than general merchandise. There are no upfront listing fees; we earn when your items sell. Your sales rep will walk you through what to expect for your specific items before you commit to anything. Start that conversation →
Are there any fees charged before my items sell?
For most standard consignments, no. Certain categories involve processing costs — for example, title and document fees on vehicles or transfer fees on firearms. These are taken from your settlement rather than billed separately, and they are disclosed before you commit. Ask your sales rep to walk through expected costs for your specific items before drop-off.
When do I get paid after my items sell?
Payouts are typically issued within 7–10 business days after your item sells and the buyer completes payment. You will receive a settlement statement showing each item sold, the final price, applicable fees, and your net payout.
What happens if my items don't sell?
If an item does not sell, our team will reach out to discuss next steps. In most cases, unsold items are either relisted in a future auction or returned to you — whichever makes more sense for your situation. Nothing happens to your items without a conversation first, and there is no automatic disposal or additional cost without your agreement.
Can I set a reserve price on my items?
Reserves are available upon request for higher-value items, at the discretion of Musick Auction. Not every item qualifies, and our team will advise whether a reserve makes sense based on the item and expected bidder demand. If a minimum return matters for something you are consigning, raise it during your intake conversation.
Preparing Your Items for Consignment
What you are responsible for before drop-off — and what you are not.
Do I need to clean or repair my items before consigning?
Clean, yes — if reasonable. Repair, no. Items should be presentable: wiped down, free of personal contents, and showing their actual condition. You are not expected to make repairs, touch up paint, or change the item’s condition. Representing items accurately — including visible wear or known issues — protects you as the seller and helps buyers bid with confidence. Full preparation guidelines →
What documents do I need to bring with my items?
For most household and personal property items, no paperwork is required. For vehicles, titled equipment, and trailers, bring the title — a clean title in your name speeds up the process significantly. For firearms, bring any documentation you have, including original purchase records if available. Real estate requires coordination with your attorney or title company. If you are unsure what to bring for a specific item, call before drop-off and we will give you a checklist. Documentation guidance →
Can I drop off items anytime, or are there scheduled intake times?
Drop-off is available during business hours at both our Nampa and Meridian locations. We also offer pickup services for qualifying consignments — large estates, business liquidations, and situations where transport is not practical. We recommend calling ahead for larger consignments so the right staff are available at intake. Locations and hours →
Should I bring accessories, manuals, or original packaging?
Yes, whenever possible. Items sell better when they are complete — a power tool with its case and manual, a firearm with its original box, a vehicle with all keys. Accessories and documentation signal to buyers that an item was cared for, which tends to produce stronger bids. If accessories are missing, that is fine — just note it so the listing reflects the item accurately.
Selling in Specific Situations
Not every consignment is straightforward. Here is where to start based on your situation.
I'm handling a family estate — where do I start?
If you have recently lost someone, or you are managing a family estate while already carrying a lot, this process does not need to add to that weight. We have helped many families work through estate liquidations — sometimes a single room’s worth of items, sometimes an entire property — and we know how to move at a pace that works for you. You do not need to have everything sorted before you call. Tell us what you are dealing with and we will help you figure out the right path. Learn more about estate auctions →
I'm liquidating a business — do you handle commercial assets?
Yes. We regularly auction commercial equipment, inventory, fixtures, fleet vehicles, and industrial assets for businesses of all sizes — from a single-location restaurant to a multi-site construction operation. See how business liquidation works →
I have firearms to sell — what do I need to know?
Musick Auction is FFL-licensed, which means we manage the legal and transfer requirements for firearm sales on your behalf. You do not need to navigate background check rules, transfer paperwork, or buyer qualification on your own. Bring any documentation you have and our team will walk you through the rest at intake. Full firearm consignment guide →
I'm selling assets through a bankruptcy, foreclosure, or divorce proceeding.
We work with attorneys, trustees, and court-appointed agents on structured asset dispositions with defined timelines and documented settlements. If you are navigating a legal process that requires asset liquidation, we can coordinate directly with your legal team. See how we support legal-directed liquidations →
I have vehicles, RVs, or equipment to sell.
We are a licensed auto dealer, which means we handle titles, registration, and transfer documentation as part of the sale. From a single used car to a fleet of work trucks, or a travel trailer to a piece of heavy equipment, we run specialty vehicle and equipment auctions regularly. Sell a car or truck → | Sell an RV or trailer → | Sell heavy equipment →
I have coins, precious metals, or jewelry to consign.
We have consistent buyer demand for gold, silver, bullion, collectible coins, currency, diamonds, estate jewelry, and fine gemstones. These categories do particularly well when bidder competition is active. Coins and precious metals → | Jewelry and fine pieces →
My situation is not listed here — what should I do?
The best first step is a direct conversation. Describe what you have and what you are trying to accomplish, and our team will advise on the most practical path forward. Find a sales rep → or contact us directly.
