How to Bid on Firearms
Buying a firearm at a Musick auction is simple, and our sales are open to the public. You do not need your own FFL to bid. Because Musick Auction is a licensed dealer, we run the transfer paperwork and background check for you.
1. Register
Create a free account at bid.musickauction.com with a government-issued ID. It takes a few minutes and lets you bid on any open firearm lot.
2. Preview & Inspect
See the firearm in person during preview hours at Nampa or Meridian. Check the bore, action, and condition before you bid.
3. Bid Online
Bid live or set a maximum proxy bid and let the system bid for you up to your limit. A soft close extends any lot that gets a late bid.
4. Pay & Pick Up
Pay your invoice, complete Form 4473 and the background check on site, then pick up in Nampa or Meridian. See our full How to Bid guide.

The FFL & Legal Process, Handled For You
As a licensed FFL, Musick Auction handles the legal side of every firearm purchase. Here is what to know:
- No FFL of your own needed. We are the licensed dealer. You complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check at pickup, and we release the firearm.
- Handguns and out-of-state buyers: federal law requires a handgun bought across state lines to transfer through a licensed dealer in your home state. Contact us before bidding and we will walk you through it.
- Ammo is local pickup only. We do not ship ammunition.
- Buyer’s premium is added to your winning bid. Current rates are on our buyer’s premium, fees & payment page.
- Idaho sales tax applies to taxable purchases and is shown on your invoice.
- All sales are final, so preview in person or review the photos and description closely before you bid.
What to Know Before You Bid on Firearms
Firearms at auction sell as-is. That is not a drawback. It is why the prices are strong, and it is exactly why we let you handle the firearm in person before you commit a bid. A few minutes at preview tells you more than any photo. Here is what experienced buyers check before they bid at a Musick auction.
- Inspect the firearm. Check the bore, work the action, and look over the overall condition during preview hours at Nampa or Meridian.
- Read the lot closely. Review the description and every photo. All sales are final, so the time to ask questions is before the auction closes.
- Know the rules for your firearm. Handguns purchased across state lines transfer through a dealer in your home state. Ask us if you are unsure.
- Set a maximum bid. Decide your top price ahead of time so a soft close does not push you past it.
- Come ready at pickup. Bring your ID, complete Form 4473, and we handle the background check and transfer on site.

Do I need my own FFL to buy a gun at auction?
No. Musick Auction is the licensed FFL. You complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check at pickup and take your firearm home legally.
How does the background check work?
At pickup you fill out ATF Form 4473 and we run a NICS background check before the firearm is released. Same process as any gun shop.
Can I buy a handgun if I live out of state?
Federal law requires handguns bought across state lines to transfer through a licensed dealer in your home state. Contact us before bidding on a handgun and we will walk you through the transfer.
Can I inspect firearms before I bid?
Yes. Preview in person at our Nampa or Meridian location, Monday through Friday. Handling the firearm before you bid is the advantage of a local auction.
Are firearms sold as-is?
Yes. Firearms sell as-is, which is exactly why in-person inspection matters. Check the bore and action during preview and read the lot description closely. All sales are final.
Can first-time buyers bid?
Yes. Our auctions are open to anyone legally eligible to own a firearm. Register for free, preview in person, and our team walks you through pickup and the transfer at checkout.
Do you ship firearms or ammo?
Ammunition is local pickup only and never ships. For firearms that require it, contact us about transfer options. Most buyers pick up in person.
Where do your firearms come from?
Estates, private consignors, and government and police surplus. Every lot is photographed and open for inspection.
What is the buyer’s premium?
A buyer’s premium is added to your winning bid, and the amount is listed in each auction’s terms. Always check the terms before you bid.
What if I do not pass the background check?
If a buyer cannot pass the required background check at pickup, the firearm cannot be transferred. If you have any questions about eligibility, contact us before you bid.
Can I return a firearm after I win?
No. All sales are final, so preview in person or review the photos and description closely before you bid.
Do I need a dealer license to bid?
No. Our auctions are open to the public. You only need to be legally eligible to own the firearm.
